"A genre-busting masterpiece, full of pacy storytelling, wry dialogue and philosophical challenge. It shows a heightened awareness of the promises of language as portals into the deepest reflections. It is funny, beautifully modulated and heart-rending. Róisín Sorahan has written that rare thing nowadays - a book of passion and truth which will enthral and challenge every kind of reader. In contemplating some of life's deepest mysteries, it tells a story that is hopeful, honest and necessary.”

Time and the Tree explores matters of spirit, intention, kindness and how to live the time that is offered through a series of revelations that will often prompt readers to set aside the tale to consider their own relationships with time and life.

Sorahan's...ability to bring to life some basic tenets of existence and the existential questions many come to feel during the course of a lifetime creates an insightful read on the level of The Velveteen Rabbit classic...

A beautifully written novel - it is a lyrical plea to embrace the moment. The kindness and hopeful quality that underlies the novel makes it a very special read. Some the of messages embedded in the text really resonated with me; I particularly loved the exploration of that idea that it is never too late to change, and also the importance of acceptance - of yourself, of others, of frailties and transgressions. It all feels very timely in today's world.

Philosophical but not complicated, its simple and crisp plot can only be described as sublime...Sorahan’s enchanting prose has the ability to touch you in a way that no other stories can. It is not exactly a feel-good story, but it is brimming with symbolism and existential undertones that will move you to read it over and over again.

The writing is fresh, wise and lyrical. So many times, while reading, I stopped and re-read sentences and phrases to experience their beauty, wit and unique turns of phrase. There is a nice balance between menace, curiosity, playfulness and wisdom.

Time and the Tree is unlike anything I’ve read in contemporary literature – a beautiful fable fit for difficult and confusing days. This story is about teaching yourself to endure, what you might want to carry with you and what you probably should leave behind.

This is a lovely story that, on the surface, appears like a simple fairy tale. But it is much more than that. It is full of symbolism and knowledge...

Time and the Tree is a beautiful debut from a talented author.

With whispers of Madeleine L'Engle, Sorahan crafts a modern parable as philosophical as it is fantastical.
